FIBArk Boat Races Inc. has a goal to promote local youth participation in whitewater paddle sports. FIBArk Board Members are working to make kayaking an accessible pastime for local youth through the Paddlers program. Historically paddlers have volunteered time at the FIBArk whitewater festival and in return FIBArk has offered affordable kayak instruction.
The program has taken many forms over the years and most recently the Paddlers program started a series of pool sessions held during the winter and river trips in the summer. With growing interest the board plans on expanding the schedule in the future. When water levels drop in July FIBArk board members hope to offer instruction in the river on a weekly basis for local youth.
Hopes are to keep a high level of volunteerism involved with the program in order to keep cost down.
