There are three courses on the recently established Salida Mountain Trails System ranging from beginner to expert all starting at the F St Cul de Sac.
The Beginner Race encourages the rider to have fun and gain confidence on some of our easier trails. It starts up Spiral Drive and heads up Lil' Rattler, the Lil' Rattler Extension, over to Backbone, then to Tenderfoot Trail and back on down Spiral Drive to the finish. This course is one lap and can be easily completed by beginner riders comfortable with Single-Track. MAP
Not sure if it is too tough for young kids or other interested party? It is an easy course to find so take the time to go pre-ride.
The Sport Race is designed for the enthusiast who loves Single-Track. We have added the more technical section of Sand Dunes Trail to create a larger clockwise loop and return downtown. There will be three laps to really enjoy what great trails Salida has to offer. On lap two and three the racers will be spread out and will climb Frontside Trail (instead of Spiral Drive) for easy cheering from downtown Salida. It is June on south facing trails so be prepared for warm temps!! MAP
The Expert Race is much more demanding. It adds another section of Backbone Trail, up Cottonwood Trail, and Prospector Trail to all the fun sections of the Sport Course. This group will be fast and the extra section of trails will add some strenuous climbing and more technical descending. Map
All three courses will be on the trails at the same time.
There will be a few minutes between starts to separate categories.
Come on down and cheer the racers, this is a spectator friendly course.
