As America's oldest and boldest whitewater festival it leaves us little choice when it comes to certain important matters. With the immaculate Arkansas River and pristine Rocky Mountains as our playground we make the choice to manage our Festival with the lightest environmental footprint as possible. Just call it our heart-felt thank you towards the environment that allows us so much delight.
This summer we will partner with ZeroHero, a Colorado based company that specializes in keeping the majority of waste out of the landfill. Though aggressive recycling and composting programs, our goal is 80% of our waste at FIBArk never sees the trash heap. Instead, our compost will turn into landscaping soils and our paper, cardboard, glass and metals will cycle into other useful material.
We are thrilled to report that Chaco will return in 2011 as our Sustainability Sponsor. With their support we are able to step up our sustainability initiative an increase the amount of waste we are able to recycle and compost. Look for Chaco sustainability stations all around the festival.
Please pay attention to all the attention we're giving mother earth. When you're ready to throw something away pay special attention to where you put it. After all, its YOU, our attendee that will green FIBArk though those decisions. Together we will celebrate our beautiful state and put waste in its place.
